About Us

This guild was started to create an accessible place for speakers and presentations about fiber activities. We wanted a group where we could learn, gossip, and then go for a coffee or beer. This group should bring together people from Boston and surrounding communities.

The group meetings are primarily for grown-ups and young folks who are old enough to knit. Anyone who can handle the touch of anecdotal swearing that comes with having to frog 12 rows of circular lace (or, alternately, discovering a cashmere sale) are most certainly welcome.

We will always do our best to incorporate and support our local yarn shops, producers, dyers, and artisans. They are an integral part of our fiber community.

The guild will have regular meetings as well as special events throughout the year. The meetings will have guest speakers and time for fiber activities together. Special events will include a Knit Out event that will be a part of the World Wide Knit In Public (WWKIP) Day, promoting our fiber pride and teaching new fiber enthusiasts about our favorite fiber activities.

What is a Common Cod?

Common Cod is a combination of two major natural resources that played a part of Boston history. Common refers to the Boston Common, which was a shared space for fiber animals and others in Boston during colonial times. Cod is a symbol of enterprise and wealth in New England history, because cod fishing was the original industry of New England and funded the textile revolution.

How to Help

The best way to help out is to become a member of our guild. You can find out more about that here.

Please drop us a line if you would like to contribute to the group. We can always use help with getting the word out about events, as well as people to staff the meetings. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity organization, so donations can be tax-deductible.

If you are bringing a fiber-related superstar into the Boston area and would be like to have them speak to the guild or have another idea for an event and would like help getting it off the ground, please contact us to see if we can collaborate on that special event.
